Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It supports the body’s natural ability to heal and function optimally by stimulating specific points on the body with fine, sterile needles. This technique encourages balance, reduces discomfort, and promotes overall well‑being.

How does acupuncture work?
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the body is sustained by Qi—its vital energy. Qi flows through a network of pathways called meridians, which act like rivers nourishing the organs and tissues. When the flow of Qi becomes blocked or disrupted, it can create “dams” in the system, leading to pain, tension, or emotional imbalance.
By inserting needles into precise acupuncture points, these blockages can be released, restoring smooth and balanced energy flow throughout the meridians. As a result, acupuncture can help regulate the function of internal organs, support digestion and absorption, enhance energy production, and improve circulation.
From a modern scientific perspective, acupuncture stimulates the nervous system, prompting the release of natural chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These substances can alter the perception of pain, influence hormonal activity, and activate the body’s internal regulatory mechanisms.
Together, these effects help rebalance the body’s energy and biochemistry, supporting natural healing processes and promoting both physical and emotional wellness.
How long does each treatment take?
The length of each session varies depending on the patient’s condition, but most treatments take approximately 40–60 minutes.
A typical appointment begins with an assessment conducted by one of our registered acupuncturists. Once the evaluation is complete, the needling portion of the treatment begins.
In most cases, it takes about 10–15 minutes to place the selected acupuncture points. The needles are then retained for 20–40 minutes to allow the body’s energy to rebalance; this is a key part of the healing process, with effectiveness often peaking around the 30 minute mark.
To conclude the session, the needles are gently removed, which takes about 5 minutes.
How many treatments would I need?
The number of acupuncture treatments varies from person to person. For long‑standing or more complex conditions, one or two sessions per week over several months may be recommended. Acute issues often require fewer visits.
For the best results, we generally suggest starting with one to two treatments per week during the first few weeks. As your symptoms improve, your visits can be gradually spaced out. To maintain energetic balance and support ongoing wellness, many patients benefit from at least one treatment per month.
Your registered acupuncturist will work with you to determine the treatment plan that best suits your individual needs.
Are there any side effects?
In most cases, acupuncture does not produce significant side effects. As the body’s energy begins to rebalance and natural healing processes are activated, some people may notice a temporary increase in their original symptoms for a day or two. This is generally not a cause for concern, it often indicates that the treatment is beginning to take effect.
It’s also common during the first few sessions to experience deep relaxation or mild light‑headedness immediately after treatment. These sensations are short‑lived and typically resolve with a brief period of rest.
Because our practitioners use sterile, single‑use disposable needles, there is no risk of infection from acupuncture treatments.
